No place to hide

"Tree Lions" found at Lake Manyara Don't wake 'em!

Small delicate antelope (female). The long nose keeps it keep cool.

Foraging in the woods of Lake Manyara

Just woke up. And here was a car load of juicy photographers. Which one should I eat first?

Calving typically occurs before the February/March rainy season when the animals are the southern-most point of the massive annual migration from the Serengeti to the Masai Mara in Kenya and back. At about 4 ft tall it's the heaviest bird in the world that can fly, but only in short hops

Early morning in the Ngorongoro Crater

Love muddy waterholes:
Mud, mud, glorious mud!
nothing quite like it for cooling the blood
so follow me follow, down to the hollow
And there let us wallow
In glorious mud!
(Flanders and Swann)

The old man of the forest

Leaving the camp for the day's shoot.

Grazing Thompson Gazelles greet the morning sun..

A million animals moving north following the grass and the rains..

The mother leaves the herd to give birth, The newborn calf struggles to stand...

.. and follows its mother back to the herd in 6 minutes. What a miracle and precious experience this is.

Known for it's grotesque appearance. Perhaps made out of the bits that were left over:.

The noon heat is brutal and the sparse Acacia trees offer little cover to the migrating herds

It's too hot to hunt. Time to protect the pups. Billed as the fastest land animal, the cheetah's speed can be sustained only in short bursts. On the long haul it would be outrun by the American Pronghorn "Antelope".

The Thompson's Gazelle is distinguished from the Grant's Gazelle by the black stripe along the body.

The nobility of the African lion made it a universal icon..

Watchful from the shade at a kopje (pronounced copy)

The male gets all the colors..

A morning dust-up on the Serengeti

Needles no problem...

..in the Serengeti dawn

The name comes from the feathers at the back of the head that look like quill pens.

I'm not sharing my mud..

Ladies' exercise break..

Boyd Norton calls the shots at the campsite

Pay day for the camp staff..

Our Intrepid drivers..

Site of the Leakey discovery of the origins of mankind..

Old bones himself. An irreplaceable leader..
